Trenlock is Family

Trenlock Kennels & Retrievers is a small family passion project with a big heart for producing and training great dogs. We deeply care for our puppies and training dogs as if they were our own. We open our home to these dogs, and they become our entire world. We believe in lifetime support for our puppies and training dogs. We celebrate the wins and accomplishments, and we commit to the trenches during the struggles with their owners. We live for the journey!

Rebecca Schroeder

Owner, Trainer, Breeder

I got started in the “dog world” after falling in love with my heart dog, Trigger, a German Shorthaired Pointer that was meant to be a temporary foster dog that ended up staying forever. After a lot of time spent hunting pheasants and grouse over Trigger, I learned that I loved hunting dogs and the job they have in the field. Since then, my passion has become training and breeding working retrievers with a genetic love for the hunt. The intensity and drive they have for their job is unmatched and every time I see that spark in a dog, it reminds me of why I love what I do so much!

I have been training dogs for 5+ years now. I have begun to compete in various dog sports and tests like Dock Diving, and Hunt Tests. I look forward to continuing to expand my knowledge base about other sports, tests, and competitions as I go!

I also love training basic obedience for companion dogs and confidence-building for dogs with generalized anxiety. I especially love teaching Cooperative Care, which allows dogs to ‘participate’ in their veterinary or maintenance care.

I graduated from Ripon College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychobiology. This background allows me to understand the fundamentals of how animals learn. This is why I believe in a scientific approach to training dogs, using Classical and Operant conditioning as the foundation for all new behaviors.

If you love dogs, the outdoors, hunting, and spending all day at dog events or just spending time with your dog, we would probably get along! I look forward to working with you and your dog.

Owner, Assistant Trainer, Assistant Breeder

Rebecca and I met in college at Ripon, and I quickly learned how important dogs were to her and that a future with her meant a future full of lots of dogs. Dogs have always been part of my life. I grew up with a small lap dog, but as I met more and more hunting and working dogs, I fell in love with them. If you told me back in high school, I would have both labs and goldens, I wouldn’t have believed you. I love their silliness, loyalty, and the drive that comes with the retriever breeds. Yes, for some they can be a bit much, but the activity levels fit perfectly with how I am as a person. I like to stay busy playing sports, getting outside with my dogs, and staying fit. I will never back down to challenging my dogs in a race!

Trenlock Retrievers is originally Rebecca’s passion, but it has developed into my own as well. I have come to love the training and breeding process in assisting Rebecca. I have also learned to love the final result of a fully trained retriever and well-mannered house dog. While the journey to the end result can be grueling at times, it has proven to be worth it in the long run.

I have been a competitive athlete my whole life. While I still play soccer on highly competitive teams, I also really love competing in Dock Diving with the dogs. While the Trenlock program is still young, I am excited about the prospect of competing in other dog sports. I am looking forward to the journey and the empire we are building!
